On the move: the latest East Midlands hires

Robin Hood Energy has revealed its new chair.

Following a board meeting last week, the Nottingham City Council-owned energy provider voted in Labour Councillor Neghat Khan to replace Councillor Steve Battlemuch in the hot seat.

Councillor Khan represents the Dales ward of Nottingham.

Outgoing chairman Battlemuch took over from the late Councillor Alan Clark in 2017 and was instrumental in championing the public energy model.

Gail Scholes, CEO at Robin Hood Energy, said: “Following the latest board meeting Councillor Neghat Khan has taken over as chair of the Robin Hood Energy board for the following year. Previously, this position had been held by Councillor Steve Battlemuch, who remains as a board director for the publicly owned energy company. Councillor Khan has been an active board member since May 2016, and takes up her new role from 11 October.”

The troubled energy supplier hit the headlines earlier this month following a dispute with industry regulator Ofgem over green tax payments.

Elsewhere, Nelsons has added two new faces to its commercial property team.

Solicitor Nathan Wescott and paralegal Sabiya Ajij have joined the law firm’s Leicester office from Sutton & Co. Solicitors and Cambridge & Counties Bank respectively.

Wescott qualified as a solicitor in July 2019 after spending more than three years as a paralegal and trainee solicitor.

He said: “Nelsons has an excellent reputation and I am really looking forward to working with a great team who truly care about giving their clients a voice. I’m new to Leicester so I’m excited to get to know the city, especially as part of a firm that has a well-respected commercial property department that’s continuing to expand.”

Ajij, a graduate member of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives, previously spent three years in the legal department at Cambridge & Counties in Leicester.

She said: “I’ve wanted to work for Nelsons since completing my law degree at De Montfort University. It’s a well-known and renowned law firm and I’m proud to say that I’m now an employee here. I’m looking forward to growing my legal expertise. Nelsons is a really nurturing law firm, so it seems like the perfect place to hone my knowledge and develop my career.”
