Travel Alert: Broken rail to bring disruption on trains between London and East Midlands

Rail travellers between the East Midlands and London are set for widespread disruption to services this morning after East Midlands Railways introduced an emergency timetable.

The move comes after engineers found a broken rail near Hendon. Repairs are set to take place tonight (Wednesday) but one of the two lines out of London will be closed today.

A statement from East Midlands Railway said: “Due to this partial closure, an emergency timetable is in place and fewer of our trains will be able to run on the Intercity route.
Congestion is likely for the trains that will be able to run and these trains may be delayed by 20 minutes in both directions.

“All of the cancellations are now showing on live train running websites and also our website.

“The line is expected to remain partially closed for the rest of the day.”

Passengers travelling this morning may travel via the following alternative routes, says the rail operator:

Sheffield
You may travel to Doncaster where you should change for a train to London Kings Cross

Derby/Chesterfield
You may travel to Birmingham New Street or Tamworth where you should change for a train to London Euston

Nottingham
You may travel to Grantham where you should change for a train to London Kings Cross

From 09:00 onwards, buses will operate between Corby and Kettering in both directions.
