An Ollerton-based manufacturer has won a multi-million euro contract to install flue and chimney systems at a new children’s hospital in Dublin.

A1 Flue Systems has secured the contract with engineering contracting company Jones Engineering.

The new National Children’s Hospital is in the grounds of the sixty-acre St James Hospital campus in the city, close to the original Guinness Brewery.

A1 Flues’ Dublin team is expected to complete its work on the project by December 2020.

The final building is scheduled to complete by 2022.

A1 Flues and Jones Engineering have finalised designs for the project, which will include a support mast for the 16 new flues of the hospital’s CHP (combined heat and power) plant, LPHW boilers, steam boilers and emergency generators.

Managing director John Hamnett said: “Securing the project is testament to the brilliance of all 140 people who work at A1 Flues, who have made our company a world beater in the design, manufacture and installation of commercial and industrial chimney, flue and exhaust systems.

“This is another huge project for A1 Flues and adds to our portfolio of prestigious projects, which includes Battersea Power Station, The Shard and the Grand Central Hotel in Belfast, where we installed an 80 m tall chimney – which we understand to be the tallest in the city.

“A special mention must also be made to Robert McGookin at our Belfast office, who has worked closely with Jones Engineering over the last couple of years to provide expert support as the plans for the flue and chimney systems have taken shape.”
