On the move: the latest East Midlands hires

Nicole McGlennon

An East Midlands innovation agency that plays a major role in transforming the health of the region’s 4.7 million residents has appointed a new managing director.

Nicole McGlennon will join the East Midlands Academic Health Science Network (EMAHSN) this month.

She joins EMAHSN from ConvaTec Group, an international medical products and technologies company, where she worked as business unit director for its UK and Ireland wound care and infusion division.

Prior to this, McGlennon held both national and international leadership roles at Arjo and spent a large part of her career working in sales, marketing and communications at Pfizer Pharmaceuticals.

In her new role, McGlennon will lead EMAHSN in helping to address some of the biggest health and care challenges facing the region, including those identified in the NHS Long Term Plan.

EMAHSN is one of 15 Academic Health Science Networks (AHSNs) set up in 2013 and relicensed from April 2018 to operate as the key innovation arm of the NHS.

The AHSNs build partnerships between NHS organisations, public health bodies, universities, third sector organisations and the healthcare industry, speeding up the identification and spread of innovation and supporting economic growth.

McGlennon said: “I am extremely excited to start in my role as managing director of the EMAHSN. I feel like this is a positive time for me to join the organisation, as there are lots of opportunities for health and care organisations to respond to key priorities outlined in the NHS Long Term Plan and we can use our knowledge to help them identify solutions and spread proven innovations.

“My extensive experience in the medical technologies sector has given me a great understanding of the barriers faced by some innovators who have the ability to help health and care organisations to address these challenge areas. Hopefully this will put our organisation in a strong position to continue to navigate these complexities to accelerate the adoption and spread of healthcare innovation across the region and bring about economic growth.”

Elsewhere, Nottingham-based build-to-rent specialist Wise Living has appointed a new development director.

Andy Pass has spent 22 years in the construction industry. He has taken the lead on a number of high-profile projects encompassing industrial, commercial, residential and educational property.

In his career to date, Pass has worked with contractors and consultants such as Turner & Townsend and public sector bodies including the Department for Education.

He said: “The role at Wise Living is an exciting prospect. I’ve always been attracted to organisations that have real values, purpose and work ethic. Wise Living has all of those things and a very clear ambition – to create over 2,000 purpose-built family homes in the next three-years. Everything is in place to do that and my job is to make sure we deliver.

“We all know that the private rental sector (PRS) is underserved in the UK and there’s a real need to provide decent homes and great places to live. I’m looking forward to getting out there and helping to raise the profile and understanding of PRS with key stakeholders and land agents.”

Wise Living, the build-to-rent division of the SDL Group, recently secured a £33 million round of funding from real estate investors ICG-Longbow.
