157-apartment development unveiled for booming southern gateway

How the scheme will look

Plans to build some 157 apartments on the southern gateway to Nottingham city centre have been revealed.

Arkwright Property Company wants to develop a scheme at 1 Wallett Street, on the edge of the Meadows, as part of a development which would see industrial units on the site demolished.

Arkwright’s scheme has been in the planning since 2018, according to documents seen by TheBusinessDesk.com. Initial plans showed a larger developement of 10 storeys housing 248 flats. After meetings with Nottingham City Council, this has been scaled down to 157 flats across 4-8 storeys.

The scheme is being designed by CBP Architects of Nottingham. A planning statement submitted by the company says: “Sitting within the proposed Meadows Gateway, the site forms part of the Southside Regeneration Area and is within the Zone of Reinvention as defined by the Nottingham City Centre Urban Design Guide. The Nottingham Local Plan Review describes the area as having the ‘potential to become a vibrant extension to the city centre and a gateway into the city from the South’.”

The scheme is the latest in a long line of schemes planned for the area of Nottingham after news of a £100m landmark mixed-use development was revealed last week, while yesterday (20 November) some 348 student flats were given the go-ahead to be built next to Nottingham Railway Station.
