5G switched on in Nottingham

EE has switched on 5G in Nottingham for the first time, with sites in Clifton and Kimberley going live this week.

The company, part of the BT Group, was the first to launch 5G in the UK when six cities were switched on in May.

The mobile network operator, which is part of BT Group, has set a new target of having 5G live in more than 70 cities and large towns by March 2020.

Wendy Sycamore, BT Group regional lead for the Midlands, said: “It’s great that Nottingham, Clifton and Kimberley are among the first places in the UK to receive 5G thanks to EE.

“This technology will provide faster mobile speeds than ever before. People will be able to download films onto their phone in seconds instead of minutes and will get a better connection even in the busiest places. 5G will also bring major benefits to businesses, and, as well as faster speeds it will enable more partnerships and innovation in key sectors in the future such as manufacturing and healthcare.”

Ian Curryer, chief executive of Nottingham City Council, added: “It’s really exciting that Nottingham will be among the first in the UK to benefit from 5G technology.

“5G offers huge potential to transform how we live and work over the next few years so it’s great that Nottingham is at the forefront of this revolution in mobile technology.”
