Work begins on £42m pool complex

A much-anticipated £42 million swimming pool and water park scheme has taken a step forward in Derby.
Preparatory work has now begun at Moorways, with Derby City Council’s Streetpride team creating highway access routes onto the site before the main construction work begins in the New Year.
Cllr Robin Wood, cabinet member for leisure, culture and tourism at Derby City Council, said: “It’s great to see diggers on site and work starting on this important new pool and water park. The project is moving forward and that’s what people want to see.”
The new facility, which will become part of Moorways Sports Village, will include a 50 m pool, a water park featuring England’s first wave generating wow ball and wave rider slide, and a learner pool.
The facility will also feature a “comprehensive health and fitness experience” including a gym, sauna and steam rooms, plus a café and family areas.
The project is expected to be completed in late 2021.
