Derby named best place to live in the UK

A new study has suggested that Derby is the best place to live in the UK, particularly for single young professionals and young couples.

The report by TotallyMoney says the high local take-home salary, low rent and housing cost in the city – £2,125 a month, £494.44 and £158,998.00 respectively – make it a great location for young people looking to save.

Only 23 per cent of income is spent on rent in Derby, which is the lowest in the UK. This leaves young people with plenty of money to spend on leisure activities.

According to the study, the top five UK cities for single young professionals are Derby, Leeds, Reading, Bradford and Coventry.

Leicester and Nottingham were ranked 21st and 25th.

Henry Keegan, head of search at TotallyMoney, said: “Navigating a course through life can be tricky and even stressful, especially for those looking to live outside familiar areas. From recent graduates, all the way through to pensioners, knowing your options when it comes to where to live and where to work can be a help to everyone.”
