Air IT founder steps down as new CEO joins

John Whitty and James Healey

Nottingham-based managed service provider, Air IT, has appointed John Whitty as its new chief executive.

Whitty succeeds the firm’s founder, Todd McQuilkin, who will continue as non-executive director, with managing director James Healey stepping into the role of chief operating officer.

Whitty starts the role with immediate effect, bringing with him more than 20 years’ experience building some of the UK’s leading ICT service providers.

Healey said: “I’m extremely proud of what we have achieved at Air IT since our foundation in 2005, experiencing fantastic recognition at industry and national levels through our various awards and accreditations.

“As we enter this exciting new period for our business, we remain focussed on developing our services through innovation and continuing to provide real value for our clients.

“It’s our vision to deliver an exceptional experience for customers every time, whilst also offering a top workplace for our team, and I look forward to driving this further alongside John.”

Whitty said: “Having tracked and admired Air IT’s tremendous growth, technical experience and commitment to its customers, I am delighted to have the opportunity to lead the company into its next phase of development.

“I’m eager to ensure that we continue to develop and deliver outstanding levels of service, and to cement our position as a leader in the SME space of the UK managed services market.”

Air IT currently employs more than 70 full-time staff and manages over 500 SME clients. Over the next three years, the business says it plans to increase its headcount further as it expands beyond the Midlands and increases its footprint across the UK.

Healey added: “With some very exciting plans in store, we’re looking forward to creating new job opportunities for local people. As home to some fantastic universities, the East Midlands region provides a great platform for us to attract the best talent and ensure we can continue to lead the way as a top UK MSP.”
