Coronavirus update: the latest news from East Midlands businesses

Work is “progressing well” on site at a new care home being built by developer Charterpoint in Bingham, Nottinghamshire.

Contractor Lawrence Baker began working on the site in Grantham Road at the start of the year.

A number of measures have been taken to ensure the safety and comfort of those working on the development during the Coronavirus pandemic, including the installation of temporary sleeping, washing and showering accommodation for each bricklayer.

With social distancing guidance being applied on site, the team has made “really good progress” on the Charterpoint Senior Living development which will be run by care home operator HC-One, said chief executive of Nottingham-based Charterpoint, Adrian Goose.

“Ensuring the safety of teams on site is a priority for all those involved in this care home development, and we are pleased to say that work has carried on as normal throughout the past few weeks,” said Goose. “A number of measures were introduced to enable the bricklayers to observe social distancing and to stay on the site overnight using temporary accommodation, and this has resulted in excellent progress being made on this development.”

Mostly over two storeys, with one section over three storeys, the 70-bed care home is being built on a brownfield site which formerly housed a redundant police station.

It will feature residents’ lounges, a hair/beauty salon, cinema room and other extensive communal facilities, along with residents’ gardens.

Derby PR agency Penguin PR has completed its own birthday mini-makeover by launching a new website and logo to mark its 10th anniversary.

The company, based in Ashbourne Road, has reinvented its penguin logo and refreshed its online presence as part of a series of events being held to mark its decade.

Penguin PR was launched in 2010 by long-time colleagues Sarah Newton and Simon Burch, who use the experience gained while working as journalists for the Derby Telegraph to raise the profile of a host of companies, schools and other organisations based in and around the city.

In the last 10 years it has worked with big name brands including Lubrizol, Tenpin, Paddy Power and Bird’s the confectioners, while it also promoted branch openings for the  COSMO restaurant group, including its Derby and Nottingham branches, and publicised the opening of the Injoy play centre at Derby’s Riverlights development.

For the past three years it has also supplied the PR for the much-loved Derbyshire County Show and supported organisers when they took the difficult decision to cancel this year’s event.

The firm has always used a penguin as part of its branding and its new logo, which was created by 45 Degrees design agency in Belper, continues the tradition, while incorporating the letters P and R into the design.

Director Sarah Newton said: “We have come a long way since we launched Penguin PR and we wanted to use the opportunity of our 10th anniversary to refresh our brand, our website, and our penguin.

“Both our name and logo have done wonders for us over the years by ensuring that we’re distinctive and memorable and we’re delighted by our new, fresh look.

“The coronavirus has had an inevitable impact on our clients, but our rebrand means we are ready to hit the ground running with both existing and new clients when lockdown is over.”
