Talks over Tier 3 restrictions to continue

Councillor David Mellen

Talks are set to continue on Monday around placing certain areas of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire under Tier 3 restrictions.

Discussions between Government officials and the local county, city and borough council leaders ended on Friday evening without any official agreement. It is thought that Nottingham city, Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe will be placed in the ‘Very High’ Covid-19 risk category – despite cases falling dramatically in the city – because of concerns around hospital admissions.

David Mellen, the leader of Nottingham City Council said: “Cases in Nottingham are coming down but we need to go further. I can confirm that talks are continuing between Government and the council leaders of Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe and that those discussions have been constructive.

“Our collective priority is to reach a position where any additional measures would offer the strongest possible protection for our most vulnerable people while aiming to also achieve the best outcomes for local businesses, jobs and livelihoods.

“We will formally announce any new restrictions and clearly communicate what this will mean for our communities as soon as they are finalised.”
