Planning committee to get second vote on 100-home city scheme

Nottingham City Council’s planning committee are set to vote again on plans to build over 100 homes on the site of former school and its playing fields after they initially deferred the decision due to design concerns.

A company called GR No. 8 wants to build 45 homes on the site of the former Henry Mellish school in Highbury Vale, Nottingham, which has been derelict for a decade.

The scheme will include 33 two-bed units and 13 three-bed houses.

Meanwhile, plans have also been unveiled to build 38 two-bedroom homes and 19 three-bedroom houses on the school’s former playing field.

However, councillors said at a Nottingham City Council planning committee meeting last month that the developer needed to address concerns around the colour of brick, shared highways and general appearance of the houses.

A decision was made to defer the planning application a committee meeting next Wednesday (December 16) when councillors hope the developer can provide more information or revisions to the scheme.

The homes are being designed by architect CPMG.

A planning statement reads: “The applicant and design team are confident that this development will contribute significantly towards the quality of the local urban environment in Highbury Vale, transforming a derelict site and creating a new, vibrant residential location with a resident population that will bring new life to the area and support the local economy.

“It is hoped that Nottingham City Council will support this initiative by granting planning consent to the proposed development.”
