Forest target new CEO in Premier League push

Dane Murphy

Nottingham Forest are set for a shake-up at the top of the club and are looking to make a bid for a Championship rival’s CEO.

Forest could try and poach Barnsley’s Dane Murphy, according to reports in The Athletic, after current chief executive Ioannis Vrentzos is said to be considering his future at the City Ground.

The Athletic says that Vrentzos is set to return Athens this summer and that Murphy is top of Forest’s wanted list to take his place after the club admitted it had been impressed by his recruitment policy and track record.

Forest’s player recruitment department has already undergone an overhaul this summer, with Chris Brass and George Syrianos looking brought in to try and enlist better players to help propel the club back to the Premier League.

Now, says The Athletic, they are targeting American Murphy, a former player for DC United, VfL Osnabruck and New York Cosmos. He was appointed by Barnsley in July 2019 and is seen by many as integral to the club’s hugely successful season last year during which the club finished in the play-off places.
