Discount retailer to create 60 jobs at former Toys ‘R’ Us unit

The new Nottingham store

Discount retailer Home Bargains is set to create 60 jobs when it opens the doors to its new £1m store in Nottingham on Saturday (September 4).

The shop, at Riverside Retail Park will employ 64 team members, including some staff and management who will be transferring from local stores.

It will also be donating £2,000 to local charity Nottingham Hospitals Charity. The charity’s current Baby MRI Appeal aims to raise £200,000 for equipment to make MRI scans as quick, safe and comfortable as possible for the tiniest patients in Nottingham’s two neonatal units. The appeal will fund new equipment and technology, including special head coils to fit into babies’ incubators, making scanning images clearer and aiding diagnosis, and software to cut scanning time from 30 to 15 minutes.

Marianne Burchell, corporate fundraising manager at Nottingham Hospitals Charity, said: “We are delighted that staff at the new Home Bargains store in Riverside have chosen to support our Baby MRI Appeal. It is so touching that staff at a local store have chosen to support patients and families right here in Nottingham. This donation will help us make a real difference to our very smallest patients and their families at a difficult time in their lives, and help neonatal babies in Nottingham receive the best possible care”.

The new Nottingham store will join over 500 outlets across the UK.

Shaun Hagues, the new Nottingham store manager, said: “I started my Home Bargains journey 11 years ago in Derby as an Assistant Manager, but since then have held the title of Store Manager at both our Loughborough and Alfreton sites.

“It’s a huge honour to be opening our new Nottingham store this weekend alongside such a fantastic team, and something that I’m exceptionally proud of.”

The 18,417 sq ft store, which formerly housed Toys R Us, will offer shoppers a range of products, including homewares, health and beauty essentials, sweets, snacks and drinks, as well as fresh and frozen food.
