People: Canal Turn; Passport365

Gary Rudkin

After spending nearly two decades overseas in charge of major hospitality projects, Gary Rudkin has returned to the UK to take up a senior role at Canal Turn, the new hospitality business which is part of the huge Island Quarter scheme in Nottingham.

Rudkin joins the Canal Turn team as head of operations for food, beverage and events – overseeing Canal Turn’s restaurant Cleaver and Wake, its bar and grill Binks Yard, as well as events space Upstairs at Cleaver and Wake and outside plaza and bandstand.

Canal Turn, which is currently recruiting for 80 hospitality roles, will open in July this year and is the first phase of the impressive £1bn, 36-acre Island Quarter – one of the largest regeneration sites in the UK.

Rudkin will work alongside John Whitehead, one of the founders behind Bistrot Pierre who recently took up the role of director of operations.

Rudkin said: “I couldn’t be happier to join this dynamic team and I couldn’t be more pleased to come to Nottingham – and getting involved in one of the most exciting leisure destinations in the country today. I am looking forward to working closely with John and the rest of the team – and, in particular, Laurence Henry the head chef at Cleaver and Wake.”

Hayley Wilson

Co-founder of the Women in SAPCA initiative, Hayley Wilson, has joined Lincolnshire-based sports facility management software specialist, Passport365.

Wilson joins after nearly a decade of industry experience as an estimator and sales manager at a sports surface installation organisation in Nottinghamshire. There, she was instrumental in successfully delivering a number of high-profile projects including the £17m YMCA Newark Sports Village, part of the Football Foundation Framework scheme, and the £18m Downhill and Ford Quarry Sports Complexes, forming part of the Parklife project scheme. She joins as as Passport365 data analyst.

Wilson said: “Having been a customer of both Passport365 and Conduiit at my former company, I saw a lot of opportunity with the business and team; seeing it as the future of sports facility management and sports construction industries.”
