Offal spillage causes stink on A5 in Leicestershire

The A5 in Leicestershire is closed in both directions due to an offal spillage.

The area between the M69 J1 Stretton Baskerville (Hinckley B4109, Nuneaton A5) and A47/B4666 Dodwells Roundabout has been affected.

The police and specialist clean-up crews are on the scene dealing with the aftermath.

Motorists have been advised to allow extra time to complete their journeys.

National Highways says a diversion is available in both directions:

Northbound/westbound

From the Stretton Baskerville roundabout (M69 J1) take the exit on to the B4109 Hinkley Road (signposted to Wolvey)

Continue to the crossroads with the B4114 and turn right

Follow the B4114 Lutterworth Road west through Bramcote

At the double roundabout at Golf Drive/Bulkington Lane in Nuneaton continue straight over to remain on the B4114 Lutterworth Road

At the Highfield Road Roundabout with the A4254 take the third exit

Follow the A4254 Eastboro Way over the Cronhill Road and Attleborough Fields Industrial Estate roundabouts

At the roundabout with the A47 take the second exit

Follow the A47 The Longshoot to the junction with the A5

Turn left to re-join the A5

Southbound/westbound 

From the Dodwells Roundabout take the second exit on to the B4666 Coventry Road towards Hinkley

At the Trinity Lane junction turn right on to the B590 Rugby Road

Continue to the junction with Westfield Road/Hawley Road and turn left to remain on the B590

Follow the B590 Hawley Road/Southfield Road/ Park Road to the junction with the B4669 London Road

Turn right on to the B4669 London Road and continue on to Burbage Road

At the junction with Brookside turn right

Follow Brookside to the junction with the B4109 Rugby Road

Turn left and follow the B4109 Rugby Road

Continue over the Sketchley Road and Three Pots Roundabouts

At the Stretton Baskerville roundabout (M69 J1) take the second exit to re-join the A5
