On the move: the latest East Midlands hires

Carl Kesterton

Bruton Knowles has strengthened its national building consultancy team with the appointment of a new senior associate.

Carl Kesterton has re-joined the chartered surveyors following a brief spell at independent real estate consultants Hollis.

He brings over 22 years’ experience to the role.

Kesterton – a RICS Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) assessor – previously worked for Bruton Knowles for six years from 2016.

He will work across the firm’s Nottingham and Birmingham offices.

He said: “Passing the APC in the building consultancy discipline is particularly challenging for candidates because of the breadth and depth of knowledge required. There are so many areas of building surveying which require incredibly detailed levels of expertise in themselves, and this can sometimes put candidates off.

“It is, of course, right that there is increased demand to prove competency in building control, particularly in light of Grenfell. Surveyors who choose to enter this field do so because it is a hugely interesting and immensely rewarding area to work in.”

Kesterton added: “Bruton Knowles is a great employer, offering career progression to anyone who wants it, as well as a flexible approach to working and learning. This positive organisational culture really sets the business apart from its competitors, and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for that next step in their career.”

Nottinghamshire-based estate agents Gascoines has expanded its lettings team with the appointment of Callum Holmes as lettings co-ordinator.

Holmes brings more than 10 years’ experience in residential lettings to the family-run firm.

He said: “Residential lettings is a fast-paced industry and I was attracted to Gascoines’ great reputation as an independent, family-run business.

“Having seen some of the properties we have on offer in Southwell and its surrounding areas, I’m really looking forward to meeting and building rapport with new clients as we help them find their next home.”

Luke Saywell, director of Gascoines, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Callum on board – he is already proving to be huge asset for our team as we look to expand our offering across the region.”

He added: “With mortgage rates at a 14-year high, renting is proving to be an increasingly popular option as people look to wait out the current volatility in the housing market. With our residential lettings team going from strength to strength as it is, we are perfectly placed to help those looking for a home to find the best rented property for them.”
