A £220m construction and demolition waste recycling company which operates a host of sites across the region is set to be snapped up by building materials giant Hanson UK.

Mick George Group operates four recycling facilities, eight waste transfer stations, eleven aggregates quarries and ten ready-mixed concrete plants across the East Midlands and East Anglia.

The group employs around 1,000 people.

Subject to approval, the deal will be completed in the second quarter of 2023. It is expected to “significantly” strengthen Hanson’s circular materials proposition.

Hanson UK CEO Simon Willis said: “The acquisition of the Mick George Group is a strong fit for us and another significant step towards our target to offer circular alternatives for half of our concrete products by 2030.

“Promoting circularity and consequently recycling, reusing, and thereby reducing the use of primary raw materials, is crucial to achieving net zero.

“I warmly welcome the 1,000 Mick George employees to Hanson and look forward to further developing the business together.”

Mick George’s East Midlands sites are located in Kettering, Corby, Northampton, Wansford, Ellistown, Mountsorrel, Oakham and South Witham.
