Plans to transform a former vehicle workshop and stables at Long Eaton Town Hall into a 14-unit business hub have been given the green light.

Part of the Grade II listed stable building, which is currently used as a storage area, will be demolished to make way for the business studios.

Proposals submitted by Bailey Garner on behalf of Erewash Borough Council indicate that 28 full-time and four part-time jobs will be created at the development, which will accommodate small businesses and start-ups.

The scheme has been granted planning consent subject to the fulfilment of conditions intended to protect the historic importance of the building.

A design and access statement accompanying the proposals says the project will “revitalise the spaces and bring the listed asset back up to its former prowess and in line with the main Town House to the front of the site.”

“Certain concessions will inevitably need to be made to the building”, the statement adds.

These will include the installation of a lift and mezzanine at the rear of the site and “the introduction of modern insulating technologies at the roof, eaves, window glazing, and use of Air Source Heat Pump, which will be located on the rear elevation.”

Long Eaton Town Hall – one of two major sites occupied by Erewash Borough Council – was built in the 1770s and listed in the 1960s.
