Frasers consulting over redundancies at fashion brands acquired from JD Sports

Missy Empire is one of several brands Frasers acquired in December

Frasers Group could be set to lay off around 90 employees of the fashion brands it acquired from JD Sports last year, Retail Gazette reports.

The Shirebrook-headquartered firm paid JD £47.5m in cash for a raft of brands including Kids Cavern, Pretty Green, Missy Empire, Giulio, Tessuti and Scotts in December 2022.

A consultation process is understood to have been launched at some of the businesses ahead of the mooted redundancies.

Retail Gazette understands some members of staff have been offered alternative employment at Frasers’ Derbyshire HQ.

Frasers enjoyed a busy 2022, snapping up online fashion retailers such as Missguided and I Saw it First before unveiling ambitious plans to create a £600m campus near Coventry.

Known as Sports Direct before a high-profile rebrand, Frasers cemented its already-extensive presence in the West Midlands by acquiring the Coventry Building Society Arena in November, saving around 1,000 jobs.

The group also saw its profits increase to £284.6m during the six months to October 23 2022 after generating “strong strategic and trading momentum.”
