North-West Leicestershire MP expelled from Conservative Party

Andrew Bridgen

Andrew Bridgen, the Conservative MP for North-West Leicestershire, has been expelled from the Tory party over series of controversial tweets surrounding the Covid-19 vaccine.

Bridgen had already had the whip removed, but has now been officially expelled.

Bridgen has become a vocal opponent of the Covid vaccine in recent times, and recently compared it as “the biggest crime against humanity since the Holocaust”.

A Conservative Party spokesperson said: “Mr Bridgen was expelled from the Conservative Party on 12th April following the recommendation of a disciplinary panel. He has 28 days from this date to appeal.”

Responding, Bridgen Tweeted: “My expulsion from the Conservative Party under false pretences only confirms the toxic culture which plagues our political system.

“Above all else this is an issue of freedom of speech. No elected Member of Parliament should ever be penalised for speaking on behalf of those who have no voice.

“The Party has been sure to make an example of me.”
