Construction of new homes for the elderly kicks off in Leicester

Nine new affordable homes will be constructed at Wyggestons Hospital, providing support and care services for individuals aged 60 and older.

Back in 2019, Leicester City Council approved a proposal for expanding the administration hub, constructing eight flats, and adding six new homes on the site along Hinckley Road.

The approval came with the condition that these new structures could only be utilised by the care provider’s staff and residents, not for external rental or sale.

The current application marks the second phase of the provider’s expansion plan. It involves the addition of eight one-bedroom, single-story homes arranged in two sets of four terraces on the hospital land’s southern side, adjacent to Westcotes Drive.

Additionally, a detached two-bedroom bungalow will be added to the area and while the future occupants won’t possess private gardens, they will have access to shared green spaces across the premises.

As part of the approval, a construction management plan will be required to outline measures to minimize any potential disruptions caused by the construction
