Major retailers consider former Wilko store locations

Frasers Group, Primark and TK Maxx are amongst the retailers looking at old Wilko stores for potential new outlets.

According to Drapers, retail giant Frasers Group has been in discussions with landlords regarding the use of former Wilko premises for Sports Direct stores, with a particular focus on locations within retail parks.

Primark is also considering several locations from the closed-down retailer, mainly on high streets. This move could allow Primark to try out smaller store formats.

TK Maxx is also reportedly interested in acquiring several former stores across the UK.

These fashion retailers are joining a wave of homeware and discount retailers aiming to take over the soon-to-be vacant locations following the collapse of Wilko last month.

Poundland is set to open its first 10 stores in these empty units this weekend after acquiring 71 of Wilko’s stores earlier this month.

Discount competitor B&M also acquired 51 Wilko stores in a £13m deal at the beginning of September.
