Nearly 100 new homes are set to be built in a village near Hinckley, Leicestershire, after planning permission was granted.

Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council has given the green light for 45 homes to be built on land in Barwell.

This area has seen several planning appeals that did not favour the council, and it was originally intended to include a part of a cemetery.

The developer, Barwell Capitol, will now build the homes on the fields at Crabtree Farm, situated to the south of Hinckley Road in the village.

These new homes will complement the 51 houses already approved by the planning inspector in a recent appeal.

According to council officials, the development will consist of 15 two-bedroom houses, seven three-bedroom houses, and 14 four-bedroom houses, although there seems to be an unaccounted-for discrepancy of nine homes in the figures.

Two objections were raised regarding the application, focusing on concerns such as highway safety, the potential loss of the green open space, and an elevated risk of flooding.

In planning documents, the developer says: “The application sites form part of the appeal scheme that was earmarked for a burial ground. However, the opportunity to submit a reserved matters application to secure the burial ground has now expired.”
