Former rugby club ground considered for 100-home development

The former location of Stoneygate Rugby Club is under consideration for redevelopment.
Having vacated its premises in Covert Lane, Scraptoft, over four years ago, the site has fallen into a semi-derelict state, said developer Parker Strategic Land.
The company has submitted an application to Harborough District Council proposing the construction of up to 100 homes on the land.
The clubhouse has been lost to a fire, and the playing fields have been neglected. Seeking outline planning permission, Parker Strategic Land aims to gain approval for a residential estate featuring one and two-story structures on the property.
Outline permission implies that the developer is seeking initial approval for the project, with specific details to be finalised.
According to the developer’s application, council planning officers have described the site as having a somewhat neglected look, with remnants of its previous use, including hard standings, rubble, floodlights, lights, and unattended pitch areas.
The developer also mentioned that there are convenient services “near the site” for prospective residents. These services include a village hall, GP surgery, church, small convenience store, post office, public house, and sports and recreation clubs.
It was mentioned there are no schools in Scraptoft but pointed out two primary schools in nearby Thurnby.
The council will render a decision on the application at a later date.
