On the move: the latest East Midlands hires

Rob Cole, Andrew Granger and Andrew Bamber

Andrew Granger, a former Deputy Lieutenant of Leicestershire, has joined Loughborough-based specialist land development and property consultancy Mather Jamie as a consultant.

Granger had his own estate agency and chartered surveying firm, Andrew Granger & Co in 1989. From a single office in Market Harborough, Granger grew the firm to 50 staff, including 7 directors, across three offices in Harborough, Leicester and Loughborough. He stepped down in 2017 and since then has been acting as a consultant.

Outside of his business advisory work, Granger’s achievements include being president of the Leicestershire Chamber of Commerce in 2007 and Deputy Lieutenant of Leicestershire in 2008.

He said: “Being self-employed is rewarding, but can be quite solitary so I approached Mather Jamie as I wanted to be part of a team again. The welcome I have received has been terrific and I am excited to be a member a company that has such long-standing relationships with its clients and a fantastic reputation across the land and property industry.”

Mather Jamie’s managing director Robert Cole said: “Andrew is widely respected and we feel very honoured that he has joined our team. His immense knowledge and experience will be hugely valuable to our clients as well as an asset to our team members who will undoubtedly learn from his vast experience.”

Naomi McFadden has joined Nelsons in its Nottingham office as an associate.

McFadden qualified as a solicitor in 2020 and has advised on estate administration, will preparation, trust creation and administration, tax advice and lasting powers of attorney.

She said: “I am proud to have joined Nelsons, having been aware of its innovative and forward-thinking approach within the legal sector, as well as its positive work culture. I hope to use my experience in wills, probate and tax to support the Court of Protection team’s clients and join my team in delivering Nelsons’ first-rate service.

“I will be continuing much of the work I did on trusts, with a focus on the charitable sector – an area I am particularly passionate about. I am fortunate to be a trustee and secretary of Nottinghamshire Blood Bikes, which allows me to use real-life experience to help advise our charity clients on everything from administration services to trust creation, ongoing compliance and trustee duties.”

Gemma Hopper, senior associate and head of the court of protection team, said: “Naomi brings a wealth of expertise of charitable trusts and similarly to other members of our team, she is a trustee herself giving her a unique understanding of the sector and what it takes to volunteer and have that responsibility.

“Specialised teams such as ours are rare; as well as the charitable trusts, we work to protect vulnerable adults, dealing with deputyships, Court of Protection and niche personal injury trusts. These courts move quickly, and cases can become more complicated as they progress, which is where we often see referrals coming in. The team have recently been shortlisted for Team of the Year at the Nottinghamshire Law Society Annual Awards, taking place in April, so it’s an exciting time and as we continue to grow and strengthen the team, I am looking forward to seeing what the future holds.”

Law firm Geldards has strengthened its Commercial Property team in Nottingham with the appointment of senior associate Amjad Sheikh who joined the firm in December.

Amjad Sheikh

Sheikh brings with him over sixteen years of experience, specialising in all aspects of landlord and tenant transactions and commercial property sales and acquisitions.

He said: “I am very excited to be joining such a well-regarded firm with such a good track record in the commercial property sector and am looking forward to helping the team to continue to grow and to grow along with it.”

Partner Graham Banks said: “We are pleased to welcome Amjad to our busy team, his solid commercial property experience strengthens our offering to clients. Geldards Commercial Property team boasts a varied client portfolio and this latest appointment will help us to deliver an even better service to our clients.”
