Student accommodation scheme reaches milestone with topping-out ceremony

A topping-out ceremony has been held for a student accommodation project in Derby, bringing together key stakeholders and the development team to mark the milestone.

Derby construction group, The Berry Group is developing a project consisting of 44 student studios at the intersection of Slack Lane and Uttoxeter Old Road in the city.

The topping-out ceremony celebrates reaching the highest point in construction, which involves building a three-story student block valued at around £5m-plus.

Sam Berry, director of Berry Group, said: “Today’s topping-out ceremony is an immense step towards the completion of our
exciting student residential scheme in Derby. The team have worked extremely hard to ensure this scheme will create contemporary student accommodation which enhances the local residential area.”

Site clearance began in January 2023, followed by a groundbreaking ceremony in May 2023.

Construction is on track, with completion expected by July 2024 and ready for occupancy by September 2024.
