On the move: the latest East Midlands hires

Rachel Mills

An employment law specialist has joined the team at East Midlands law firm, Nelsons helping to spur growth for the department.

Legal director Rachel Mills has recently made the move to Nelson’s Derby office and brings more than two decades expertise to the firm.

Mills has spent most of the last 10 years with Geldards, previously working at Robinsons Solicitors and also Hopkins Solicitors, where she trained and qualified.

She said: “I chose to follow a path in employment law as there is always a great mixture of work; I was particularly drawn to the problem-solving element and enjoy being able to support both individuals and organisations. While I take great pride in all my cases and supporting clients day-to-day, I particularly enjoy the challenge of complex work, including the employment aspects of corporate transactions, tribunals, and negotiating deals.

“When it came to Nelsons, I was aware of the strong reputation of the firm and having met the partners in the employment team – Laura Kearsley and Peter Nicholson – I felt we had many shared values. I have had such a warm welcome to the team and I am looking forward to helping continue the great work happening here in Derby.”

Laura Kearsley, partner and head of the employment team said: “We are keen to build our team’s profile in the Derby market, and Rachel joining us will certainly help this. She has a great level of all-round experience that appealed to us, particularly her work on tribunal matters. Rachel has a great reputation for her work in the Derby area and beyond, and culturally, she was a perfect fit for Nelsons. We are pleased to welcome her into the team.”

Reuseabox, the B Corp certified packaging company dedicated to promoting the reuse of cardboard boxes, has hired Tom Spencer and Alicia Anderson national account managers.

Spencer brings with him over five years’ experience in sales and recruitment, including managing editorial and advertising for an international B2B publication.

He said: “I love the ideals and purpose of Reuseabox and I wanted a job where could I make a difference. Plus, I saw that Reggie, the office dog, was listed as Barketing Manager on the website and knew this was the place for me!”

Alicia Anderson, recognised as Apprentice of the Year by the East Midlands Chamber of Commerce in 2023, comes to Reuseabox with a background in business development and B2B sales.

She said: “I wanted to get my foot in the door within the environmental industry and have the opportunity to connect and grow with a more purpose-driven company. What I love about Reuseabox is that we’re actively giving back to the planet.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Tom and Alicia to our team,” said Jack Good, founder at Reuseabox. “Their expertise and passion for sustainability align perfectly with our mission to disrupt the packaging industry through reuse. As we continue to grow, their contributions will be invaluable in serving our customers and driving our vision forward.”
