Town centre regeneration scheme advances with £20m funding
A project to improve a town centre in Nottinghamshire is moving forward after Nottingham City Council received around £20m in government funding.
The Bulwell Town regeneration project will include upgrades to the town’s marketplace, bus station public toilets and new play areas at Bulwell Bogs.
The city council has said that detailed designs will be developed in the coming months, with construction expected to start next summer and conclude by March 2026.
Improvements include more trees and greenery, as well as the restoration of heritage features on historical buildings and shopfronts in Bulwell.
A public consultation in 2022 helped shape the scheme, which was submitted with the funding bid.
Councillor Neghat Khan, council leader and executive member for strategic regeneration, transport and communications, said: “Bulwell town centre is an important part of the city and I’m pleased we can invest vital funds to make improvements, such as creating a modern square with better toilets and more green spaces. This work will help to enhance the heritage of the town, while boosting the facilities for markets and events, and also making it easier to get around the town and to and from the main transport hubs. This is an exciting time for this historic market town.”
