Sports facilities planned on grounds of historic estate
Derbyshire-based Matthew Montague Architects is collaborating with Stowe School in Buckinghamshire to design new sports facilities within the grounds of the Stowe estate.
Located on a Grade I-listed site and renowned for its ‘capability brown’ landscape, Stowe is a historically significant site.
Its historical and architectural importance requires Historic England and the National Trust, which oversees its Georgian gardens, to closely monitor any new developments.
The project seeks to incorporate sports pitches, changing rooms, spectator seating and floodlights.
Architect Daniel Evans said: “Each design iteration has drawn inspiration from the landscape. Working on a site of this historical magnitude is undoubtedly challenging, but the collaborative process has been immensely rewarding. We are much closer to a final design. While it may not be as expansive as initially envisioned, the result is filled with design merit and will be a facility that both Stowe and I can be proud of.”
Matthew Montague said: “We’re proud to bring a new addition to Stowe’s historic landscape. This project not only reflects our commitment to creating creative design but also highlights the continued growth of our portfolio in the education and sports sectors.”
