E-scooters zooming back to Nottingham this spring

Nottingham City Council is re-launching e-scooters to provide a greener travel option and reduce car use across the city.

Transportation company Dott has been selected to run the new scheme, bringing the bright blue and red e-scooters that are already operating in cities like Bristol and Milton Keynes to Nottingham.

The e-scooters will be available for use starting in spring 2025.

Around 1,300 e-scooters will be offered for hire at around 300 designated parking locations throughout Nottingham.

The council has installed 275 new racks for e-scooters and e-bikes, updating some older spots to meet new parking standards.

Follow a pay-as-you-go pricing model; the bikes will be priced at 29p per minute with no unlock fee, and there will also be options for discounted passes, including a £2.99 monthly pass for unlimited £2 rides.

NHS workers, students and people on low incomes will also benefit from special discounts.

Dott will offer a range of training resources for first-time riders, including a mandatory quiz, app tutorials and a beginner’s mode that limits speed during the first three rides.

The e-scooters will be restricted to Nottingham’s city limits and will not operate outside designated areas. The council can also implement ‘low-speed’ or ‘no-go’ zones for added safety.

The new trials are part of a government-wide program that will run until May 2026.

Nottingham City Council leader and executive Member for strategic regeneration, transport and communications, Cllr Neghat Khan said: “We are thrilled that e-scooters are returning to Nottingham, providing a convenient, sustainable, and affordable transport option. By offering an alternative to car journeys, e-scooters will play a key role in easing congestion and lowering harmful emissions in our city. This aligns with our commitment to improving air quality and promoting greener travel for all our residents and visitors.

Peadar Golden, UK general manager at Dott said: “We are very excited to work with Nottingham City Council to provide another efficient and sustainable transport solution to get people out of their cars. As a responsible operator, Dott is bringing its experience from more than 400 cities to ensure its service is carefully integrated into the city, offering safety and reliability for riders together with orderly streets for pedestrians.”
