Plans in for student scheme on major city gateway

How the scheme could look

Plans have been lodged with Nottingham City Council to build a purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) scheme on one of the main roads into the city centre.

Castle Park View wants to build a 141-unit development by demolishing the showroom of the Zoo Interiors building at Dominion House on Castle Boulevard and 49-51 Fishpond Drive. The frontage of the building will be retained.

Plans for the four-storey scheme show it will made up of 122 cluster flats, 15 studio flats and four bedrooms at the house which currently sits at 49-51 Fishpond Drive.

Commercial units will be included in the ground floor of the building, which is being designed by Franklin Ellis Architects.

The proposed scheme is designed to make a positive architectural contribution to the immediate realm of Castle Boulevard, a significant route serving Nottingham City Centre.

A planning statement reads: “It will offer high-quality student accommodation in a sustainable location, tying in with the nearby regeneration of the University of Nottingham Castle Meadow Campus.

“The development will regenerate an under-utilised site. In addition, the incorporation of ground floor commercial units will provide amenity for the local community, retaining
activity at ground level.

“There is an ongoing and urgent need to meet the housing needs of students residing in the city and the proposed development will make a meaningful contribution to meeting that need.
