The EU Referendum – in or out: Ashley Horton, Qdos Holdings

Ashley Horton

In the first of a regular series asking East Midlands business leaders whether they want to see the UK remain in the EU, or leave, we speak to Ashely Horton, CEO of Leicestershire-based Qdos Holdings.

Do you support staying in the EU, or leaving?
As a businessman I whole heartedly support staying in the EU rather than exiting

Have you changed your position since the Referendum was announced?
I haven’t changed my position as such, certainly not wearing my business hat, but there has been a shift in the numbers who think we should exit, including some in business quarters.

What would your 100-word pitch be to undecided business owners?
EU membership gives us access to European markets and enables us to trade freely, simplifying business rules on exporting.
Free trade drives competition resulting in lower prices.
Because of its sheer size, the EU attracts global investment, look at the number of multi nationals in the UK; they have based operations here because we are part of the EU, to leave is likely lead to job losses and reduced investment in the UK affecting growth.
We currently have a voice around the table to help shape the EU for the future
Our credit rating may be downgraded if we leave.
