Webroot, the next-generation endpoint security and cloud-based collective threat intelligence firm, has has said it will create around 50 jobs over the next year after doubling its office space with the help of city centre commercial property consultancy BB&J Commercial.

Webroot arrived in Derby in 2013 when it acquired Prevx, and invested in 7,128 sq ft offices at Orient Way on Pride Park, a sale led by BB&J Commercial on behalf of Melbourne Developments.

Since then, Webroot, founded in 1997 and headquartered in Colorado, has been enjoying significant success in Derby and has been on the lookout for similar space in order to grow its operations in the city.

Having been advised by Maxfield & Harrison Investments to find a new occupier for its office building at adjacent Mallard Way, BB&J Commercial were able to successfully secure the letting with Webroot, taking the cybersecurity firm’s total occupancy on Pride Park to around 14,000 sq ft. The building also provides Webroot with the potential to expand even further over time as it has been designed to accommodate an extension which would offer an additional 4,000 sq ft office space.

Chris Wright, who secured both deals, said: “It’s great to see a company such as Webroot, which is the global market leader in its field, committing once again to Derby. Their expansion demonstrates the confidence they have in the market and the strength of Pride Park in particular as a professional centre for businesses from around the world. I have no doubt Webroot will be delighted with the new office, which is extremely high quality and enjoys sweeping views across Pride Park thanks to its sought after location”.

Bill Evans, senior manager of facilities at Webroot, added: “Derby exerts a significant impact upon global commerce and technology—something we do every day at Webroot as we help customers and businesses protect against malware and other online threats.

“We are inspired by the innovation in Derby and, after more than three years successfully building our team and operations in the city, the time is right to expand our business again by taking on additional premises and recruiting 50 new employees. We are thrilled to be expanding our presence within such a successful commercial area and to be part of the city’s thriving tech industry”.
