A 160-year-old veterinary practice is set to move into a new purpose-built building.

Woodward Veterinary Practice in Ashby-de-la-Zouch has been run from its current site in South Street since 1994 but can trace its history back to 1852. The small-animal practice has 24 members of staff, including five full-time veterinary surgeons.

However, with a growing list of customers, owner and practice principal David Woodward decided it was time to move into a new building on the Ivanhoe Business Park.

When funding fell through from another bank, he approached Mark Jones, senior relationship manager at NatWest, who was able to help. This enabled Woodward to purchase a new site and to work with Clowes Developments to construct a two-storey practice which will be ready by the end of 2016.

The new building will offer five consulting rooms, improved operating facilities, separate kennel rooms for dogs, cats and small animals, plenty of customer parking and better facilities for staff and customers.

Woodward said: “We have been in the area for a long time so it felt right to invest in a new home which will really showcase our services. We have a dedicated team of staff who offer the care and compassion which you would expect for your pet and they are all very excited about the new surgery and having the facilities to offer an even better service in the future.’

“After starting from scratch, we’re excited that work is now underway and we’ll soon have a fantastic new building for new and existing clients.”

Jones added: “It has been extremely fulfilling to see the plans come to life. Together with David and his team, we have overcome many hurdles to achieve his ambition. With a long history behind them, the spacious new premises will really take the business forward to cope with present and future demand for veterinary services in and around Ashby.”
