50 new jobs at Derby gym

Gym chain Xercise4less has been given the green light by Derby City Council.

The gym will move into 8 East Street (formerly occupied by TK Maxx) in a deal brokered by Bondholder FHP.

This addition to the St Peters Quarter is in line with Derby City Council’s masterplan and brings new investment and jobs to the area.

A statement on the decision notice said: “In this instance, the loss of retail floorspace is outweighed by the wider benefits of the proposal in terms of combating a long-term vacancy.”

“The local planning authority is satisfied that sufficient units would still remain in retail use within this particular frontage and the proposal would provide a complimentary use which, subject to conditions, would add to the vitality and viability of the city centre shopping area.”

The new gym will create 50 jobs and have 400 pieces of equipment, large studio for classes and ladies-only section.
