This week’s Top 10 stories: Courtaulds drama unfolds

Sophie Ellis Bextor was the public face of Pretty Polly, made at Courtaulds

Sometimes people just like reading bad news, and that was the case this week as the 320 redundancies made at the Courtaulds factory in Belper came like a bolt out of the blue.

The Courtaulds job losses are the first big casualty of the ongoing saga at BHS, which – it seems – simply stopped ordering the Pretty Polly hosiery made in Belper.

There are desperate talks taking place today (27 May) to try and find a buyer for the factory, but you have to ask yourself: who will be next if BHS can’t put together a rescue package.

In second place, some more cheery news. Leicester-based property consultants TMDP Group’s relocation to Lutterworth has doubled the size of its head office and will mean an increase of 30% in staff numbers. Reasons to be cheerful indeed.

Coming in third is the news that HR guru to some of the biggest companies in the East Midlands, Rebecca Bull, is going it alone to set up My HR Hub.

The HR consultancy has been set up to SMEs employer branding, recruitment, engagement, reward, wellbeing and HR software systems. We wish her all the best in her new venture.
