County Council leader awarded CBE

Councillor Anne Western has been awarded a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
The accolade recognised Councillor Western’s outstanding services to local government.
Councillor Western, who was elected in 1997 and has been our leader since 2013, said: “To receive the CBE is a great honour which came as a total surprise.
“It’s a privilege to serve the people of Derbyshire, doing the work I love for the place I love.
“I think it is recognition of the important role which Derbyshire plays on the national stage and a great credit to everybody at the county council working hard to continue delivering quality services during these difficult times.”
As well as being leader, councillor Western is also cabinet member for strategic policy, economic development and budget. She was previously cabinet member for children’s services.
