Logged off: Sally Swann, JLT

Sally Swann, head of Midlands region for insurance broking and risk management advisers JLT Specialty reveals her out of office secrets.
How do you relax at the weekend?
There is nothing better than that Friday feeling and a family meal at our local with my husband and my two sons. They both now live and work in London, so these occasions are really special. My other enjoyments are walking our chocolate brown Labrador and gardening.
How many hours do you work at the weekend?
I do try to keep the weekends free from work so that I’m recharged ready for Monday. But it does depend on how busy I am. Since I became head of the Midlands region for JLT Specialty this has not always been possible but I am quite good at ensuring a good work-family balance.
What is your favourite:
– Holiday destination – anyone who knows me will say how much I like the sun! So anyway hot where I can lounge around on a sunbed to soak up a warm climate suits me!
– Book – I love to read anything by Charles Dickens, but my outright favourite is “A Tale of two Cities”
– Album – I’m travelling a lot along the M42/M6 between home, Nottingham and Birmingham at the moment. It seems James Bay has become quite a familiar sound in my car! I think he is a great musician and singer and his debut album is quite amazing.
– Food – I really enjoy cooking, and like experimenting with most foods, particularly if it also involves enjoying a nice red wine during the preparation!
– TV Programme – I guess being involved in the management of risk I’ve always been inquisitive, so most detective programmes get my attention. I’m delighted that a new series of Wallander has started – I think his health issues are stress related – surely they are not about to kill him off with some terminal illness!
– Website or App – Really? I’m almost a complete technophobe, though I am getting quite good on the “Whatsapp” cross messaging platform as there is quite a lot of fun banter that goes on in our family and this is a good way for us all to stay in touch more frequently.
How do you spend Sunday evenings?
When I’ve been really busy or have a hectic week ahead I usually put aside 2-3 hours on a Sunday evening to catch up or prepare for the following week.
