GF Tomlinson lands £15.9m University of Nottingham deal

Derby-based G F Tomlinson has landed the contract to design and build Nottingham University’s Advanced Manufacturing Building.

The firm beat off national contractors to win the deal with a £15.9m bid.

The new 97,000 sq ft building will be home to around 400 staff, students and researchers and will include research workshops and laboratories that the University says will “encourage collaboration between teaching and industry”.

The University of Nottingham was awarded £5m by the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership as part of a Growth Deal expansion towards the cost of the AMB.

The creation of the new manufacturing centre is part of an investment of £100m in manufacturing research and training at The University of Nottingham over the next 10 years, comprising funding from the University, research councils, industry, government and the EU.

Architect on the project is Bond Bryan, with Arup acting as structural and services engineer. Turner & Townsend are project manager and Sweett Group are the cost managers.
