Every year in September, buildings of every age, style and function – ranging from castles to factories, parish churches to Buddhist temples – welcome in the British public for four days only.
This once-a-year opportunity offers the chance to discover hidden architectural treasures and enjoy a wide range of tours, events and activities which bring local history and culture to life.
Moscow State Circus
Date: Tuesday 6th – Sunday 11th September
Location: Bass Recreation Ground, Derby
The Moscow State Circus returns to the UK with its latest and greatest production to date. The team of wizards, side-kicks and buffoons will be telling Russian folklore tale through roller-skating, juggling, wire walking, back flipping and other magnificent feats of human achievement.
Charles Dickens ‘A Tale of Two Cities’
Date: Saturday 10th – Saturday 17th September
Location: Royal and Derngate, Northampton
Interweaving one family’s intensely personal drama with the terror and chaos of the French Revolution, it is an epic story of love, sacrifice and redemption amidst horrific violence and world changing events.
Charles Dickens considered the novel his best ever story and now the award-nominated production will be performed on the Royal stage for one week only.
Diddy Disco
Date: Saturday 10th September
Location: Lincoln Drill Hall
This Saturday Lincoln will be alive with the sound of music as the Drill Hall invites parents and their under sevens to a disco! Playing a bit of everything from current tunes to rock and roll to disco, the event is a great way to entertain the kids. Face painting and refreshments will also be available at the disco!
Mela Festival

Location: New Art Exchange, Nottingham Playhouse and Nottingham Castle
Nottingham’s annual South Asian celebration returns this September as Mela 2016, with a three-day spectacular of music, dance, film screenings, sports, family friendly activities and delicious cuisine. There really is something for everyone over the course of the weekend with everything from yoga to dragon making and Bollywood dance to tiger talks.
