103-bed student scheme gets go-ahead

Planning permission has been granted to build a 103-bed student accommodation block on the site of a former bar and music venue.

IMAP Properties of Enfield are set to build the 69-apartment building on the site of the former Bar Seven and Junktion 7 venue in the Canning Circus area of Nottingham.

The scheme was first granted planning permission in 2013 but was subject to a series of alterations.

The news comes as the once-popular Bar Seven bar and Junktion 7 venue was finally demolished this month.

The new scheme will include social spaces for students as well as retail units on the ground floor.

A statement supporting the planning application said: “As property markets change over time it is important to consider building design which can be adaptable to future change of use should trends in the local market change and student accommodation is no longer required.

“The building’s appearance has been designed as a high quality landmark for the area with large windows in a regular grid which could easily be converted to hotel or apartment use instead of student accommodation.”
