Leicester-based EHL Group, which owns law firm Edward Hands & Lewis, has bought Nottinghamshire-based Sheltons Solicitors.

The deal will see Sheltons Solicitors’ 26 staff and five partners join EHL.

Sheltons Solicitors was founded in 1934 by Edward Leslie Robson with George Shelton joining the practice in the 1950s.

The three Nottinghamshire-based Sheltons branches in Bulwell, Carlton and Hucknall bring EHL’s nationwide legal branches up to 17, 16 of which are local branches alongside the EHL Commercial Law centre based in Leicester.

Clive Smith, partner at Sheltons, said: “The opportunity to join EHL Group offers significant benefits to both firms, our people and not least, our clients. We are thrilled to become a part of such an innovative, forward thinking company and are looking forward to the future with EHL.”

EHL Group’s managing director Jason Hathaway said: “Edward Hands & Lewis Solicitors earlier this year was highlighted one of the 20 fastest growing firms in the UK with a predicted turnover of £7m this year. Having Sheltons Solicitors come on board means excellent, top quality legal specialists will complement our existing teams and sector expertise, giving us a much wider presence across Nottinghamshire.”

Group director for EHL Paul Stubbs, who will take over the day to day operation of Sheltons said: “Both firms are embarking upon a significant and historic development in their history and we welcome Sheltons solicitors, both clients and staff, to the EHL Group. There is no doubt the clients of Nottingham and the wider County will benefit from rwo very well established law firms coming together.”
