Bombardier appoints new HR boss as staff brace themselves for job cuts

Dan Brennan

Bombardier has hired the man responsible for making 7,500 jobs cuts across the company.

Dan Brennan has been unveiled as senior vice president, human resources. He starts his new role in February 2017.

Brennan is currently group human resource and talent development director at CRH, a global building materials group, headquartered in Dublin, Ireland with over 89,000 employees in 31 countries worldwide.

“I am very pleased to welcome Dan to our senior leadership team,” said Alain Bellemare, Bombardier’s CEO. “His proven track-record leading global human resource teams in support of high performing and high growth organizations make him a perfect fit for Bombardier, both where we are today, and where we are headed in the future as we continue to transform the company.”

Bombardier, which has a significant presence in Derby, is set to cut 7,500 jobs – the second time it has shaved 10% off its workforce this year.

Around two-third of the cuts will be in its rail division, Bombardier Transportation, which has a base in Derby.

The firm said the job cuts will mean restructuring charges of between £184-£224m in the fourth quarter of the year – as well as into 2017.

Bombardier says the reason behind the move is that it has too many sites producing similar components.
