5 things to do in the East Midlands this weekend

1. Free firework display

Location: Forest Recreation Ground, Nottingham

Nottingham’s bonfire night event is set to be busier than ever as the free firework celebrations fall on a Saturday this year. There will also be fair ground rides and food stalls to add to the festivities too!

2. Dirty Dancing 
Date: Monday 31st October – Saturday 5th November
Location: Royal & Derngate Theatre, Northampton

The record-breaking international sensation is dancing into Northampton this week with heart-pounding music, breath-taking emotion and sensual dancing.

Seen by millions, this worldwide classic tells the story of two fiercely independent young spirits from different worlds, who come together in what will be the most challenging and triumphant summer of their lives. The performance will feature 35 hit songs, including Hungry Eyes, Hey Baby, Do You Love Me? and the film’s very memorable classic, The Time of My Life.

3. Bonfire night at Abbey Park )
Date: Saturday 5th November
Location: Abbey Park, Leicester

Prepare to be both dazzled and entertained this weekend at Leicester’s biggest bonfire and firework display, featuring family activities, live entertainment and a spectacular fire show by Flame Oz.

In addition to the main fireworks there is also a funfair, food stalls and a quieter firework display suitable for young children.

4. UK Young Artists National Festival
Date: Friday 4th – Sunday 6th November
Location: Various venues, Derby

This weekend, enjoy performances from over 80 of the UK’s most talented young creatives working in dance, theatre, literature, visual arts, film and music as UK Young Artists’ presents its 4th biennial.

5. Bach’s Magnificat
Date: Saturday 5th November
Location: Lincoln Cathedral, Lincoln

Lincoln’s largest choral group, Lincoln Choral Society will be presenting Bach Magnificat, a concert which aims to give the audience a memorable musical experience in Lincoln’s stunning Cathedral.

The 100-stong mixed choir will be drawing on the work of local, national and international musicians including J S Bach and G P Telemann. The Choral Society will also be joined by Lincolnshire Chamber Orchestra and several soloists.
