Appointments: Chairman for Datalaw; Bollington & more

ONLINE legal training provider Datalaw has appointed an experienced chairman as it looks to ramp-up its growth plans.

The Liverpool-based company has recruited 53-year-old Howard Joseph to the non-executive post. Mr Joseph has more than 30 years’ corporate experience at board level, with software and technology companies.

He was a director at McGuffie Brunton, a software company based at Salford Quays, for nine years until its sale in 2007 to AIM-listed K3 Business Technology Group. He then spent five years as a divisional managing director at K3, before leaving towards the end of 2012 to take up a number of interim and non-executive appointments.

Mr Joseph said: “Datalaw has an excellent reputation and a deep understanding of the legal training market. It is ideally-placed to capitalise on opportunities arising from changes in this field, and I am thrilled to be joining the business at such an exciting time. I look forward to helping to shape its expansion strategy in the coming years.”

Founder Charles Peter added: “Howard’s experience in helping to achieve sustainable growth for software and technology companies will be invaluable as we move into an exciting expansion phase for Datalaw.”

FORMER rugby star Phil Jee has joined regional insurer Bollington Insurance Brokers as a corporate account manager based in Altrincham.

Mr Jee, now 52, scored more than 1,000 points for Sale between 1982 and 1996, during  which time he played in every position in the back line. He then spent five years at Manchester Rugby Club, where he was a player and coach before retiring in 2001.

He has worked in insurance since 1980 and his most recent position was business development manager at Risk Services NW, a broker based in Chester.

Bollington chief executive Paul Moors said: “We are very pleased to appoint Phil to our team of account managers. He is an experienced and respected insurance professional who will add to our capabilities.

“Phil is the latest in a line of key appointments during 2014 as we look to continue the progress we have made since the management buyout of the business in 2013.”

TRAFFORD Park-based Russell Homes has appointed Gary Lynch as a planning manager to help grow its strategic land development arm.

Mr Lynch has more than 10 years’ experience in town planning, masterplanning and regeneration across residential, commercial and public schemes and joins from IBI Taylor Young.

He said: Gary said: “I’m excited to have joined Russell Homes at a time when the firm’s ambitious vision and growth strategy is coming to fruition, with a number of projects being progressed through site acquisition and planning applications. They have a strong team with a very clear direction, with an emphasis on quality and a track record for delivery, and I’m looking forward to being a part of that.”

LIVERPOOL law firm Cassell Moore has expanded its employment team with the appointment of Melanie Hockenhull.

Melanie graduated in law from Oxford University and trained with City of London law firm Lovells, qualifying in 2009. She has worked for the British Dental Association, national firm Eversheds and joins from Bramhalls, a niche employment law practice on the Wirral where she worked as a solicitor.

Liz Cotton, Cassell Moore head of employment, said: “Melanie is an experienced solicitor with an excellent track record in dealing with employment law issues. I’ve no doubt she will make a fantastic addition to the team and make a significant contribution to its future growth.”
