1,100 Preston homes plan set for approval

COUNCILLORS in Preston are set to approve plans for a further 1,100 homes at Cottam Hall in north west Preston next week.
The Homes & Communities Agency (HCA) is seeking permission for housing as well as 5,000 sq ft of retail and 16,000 sq ft of commercial.
The development will complete an area already designated as a new town. Around 960 houses have already been built.
In a report prepared ahead of the meeting council officers said: “A number of objections have been received from local residents and nearby land owners which have been fully considered as part of the determination of the proposal.
“The issues raised have either been mitigated against as part of the secured masterplan and developer contribution measures, or do not warrant the withholding of planning permission.
“The principle of residential development at the site has been a commitment within the Local Plan proposals map and is a strategic site within the Central Lancashire Core Strategy.”
They add: “The proposed scheme would provide significant and valuable benefits and contributions to the local area and the city of Preston, in terms of housing, including affordable provision, highway and pedestrian improvements on-site and off-site, community benefits such as open space, education, economic investment, community facilities and environmental benefits.”
