Iliad breaks ground on Liverpool student scheme

LIVERPOOL developer Iliad Group has broken ground on a £20m student scheme in the city.
The St Michael’s development will deliver 261 rooms on the corner of Grenville St South and Kent Street within the Ropewalks area of the city.
Forward-let to the charity Cosmopolitan Student Homes, the development comprises of 225 flats of four, five and en-suite rooms, clustered around a kitchen and lounge area, with a further 36 studio rooms.
It is being built on the site of St Michael’s Church and burial ground. The space had been deconsecrated and used as a park but the council said Iliad would have to exhume and re-inter 4,000 graves when it granted planning permission.
Sam McMillan, managing director of Cosmopolitan Student Homes, said: “The project is located in a vibrant and up and coming area of the city, just minutes away from the main university campuses and I think this, coupled with high quality of design and facilities will make it a very popular choice for next year’s student intake.”
The scheme is being delivered by VINCI Construction.
