Conlon Construction wins £1.7m museum contract

PRESTON-BASED Conlon Construction has been appointed to carry out the £1.7m redevelopment of the Museum of Lancashire.

Building work is set to begin in November to give the museum, on Stanley Street in Preston, a contemporary appearance.

Plans for the museum – housed in the Grade II listed former Preston Quarter Sessions House building – include a new entrance area with reception, shop, café and displays.

It will also house a ‘Lancashire Through Time’ gallery and areas focusing on Lancashire entertainers as well as industry and conflict.

The major backing for the project has come from Heritage Lottery Funding and Lancashire County Council, along with donations from the Friends of the Museum of Lancashire, the Queens Lancashire Regiment and the Trustees of the Fusiliers Collection.

Construction director Michael Conlon said: “The development of the museum is a fantastic project to be involved in, and I’ll definitely be recommending that people pay the attraction a visit.

“We are looking forward to creating an impressive space with exciting new exhibit areas and facilities.”
