New Aldi store taking shape

STRUCTURAL work on the new £1.3m Aldi store at Stretford Mall in Greater Manchester is now complete and ready for internal fit-out.

Architectural practice Pozzoni was appointed by the mall’s owner Lunar Stretford Sarl to design the 17,000sq ft new store which is now set to open in the summer.

Jamie Wood, director and head of the commercial team at Pozzoni, said: “The site of the store is bounded on two sides by the mall’s access route to the multi-storey car park and existing units on the other two sides.

“These constraints meant that we had to reconfigure the layout which included relocating the loading bay to the rear of the building and the staff welfare areas were redesigned to fit the triangular space.”

Changes were also made to the layout of the site’s car park to improve traffic flow and the trolley park area which is now to the front of the store, rather than external to the retail space.

Wood added: “Even though a number of alterations were made to the overall standard store design, we still maintained the retail space dimensions. This meant that the customer areas were unaffected and remained at a size and standard that shoppers would expect to find in an Aldi store.”

The new Aldi store has taken the space previously occupied by a vacant unit, previously a former Wilkinson store which was demolished to make way for the new build.
